Statelayer exists because the clinicians doing this work deserve to spend their time on patients — not on spreadsheets, claim chasing, and tools that were never built for the care they provide.
It started with watching clinics patch the gaps by hand.
Mental health practices are growing fast, but the software underneath them never kept up. Generic practice-management and EHR tools weren't designed for how this care actually runs — the observation windows for interventional treatments like ketamine and Spravato, the payer-by-payer billing, the mix of cash and insurance. So clinics fill the gaps with spreadsheets and manual workarounds that quietly drain hours every week and leak revenue they've already earned.
We thought that was backwards. The people delivering this care are clinicians first and operators second — and they were being asked to run a billing and operations stack no one built for them. So in 2025 we set out to build one that was — starting with the interventional clinics whose billing was hardest, like ketamine and Spravato, and expanding across mental health from our home base in New York City.
